History of Eastbourne Tyre Company

Eastbourne Tyre Company was founded in 1925 by Nelson Ashby (great-grandfather of the current owner) and moved to its present site on Fort Road, Seaside, Eastbourne in 1929.

At that time, they would re-tread tyres at the Fort Road depot as well as being vulcanised repair specialists.

Nelson’s son-in-law Charlie Price joined the family business at the age of 15 and apart from the war years, he spent the whole of his working life at the tyre company, at first alongside Nelson and then as proprietor. Charlie introduced the art of battery making and repairing to the business, which he carried out well into the late 1970s.

Keith Price, the third generation and Charlie’s son, was with the firm for 45 years. Matt, Keith’s son, now runs the business – the 4th generation.

The present staff of 20 have amassed between them a total of over 200 years’ experience in the tyre industry, something which benefits both our customers and our company, for there is no substitute for experience.

The standard of work and the level of service that we deliver to our customers are both of the highest quality and this has been the foundation of the company’s continued success, now approaching its 100th year.
