Why do electric vehicles need different tyres?

Despite having the same external appearance, electric vehicles are up to 20% or even 30% heavier than conventional fuel vehicles because of their large battery packs, which are supported by the tyres. Therefore the tyres required for an electric vehicle must be specifically made with increased weight-bearing capacity.

EV tyres have noise-reduction capabilities, which is another key distinction between regular and EV tyres. Without sound-reducing technology, the tyres on an electric car would obviously seem much noisier than those on a typical combustion engine vehicle because the engine noise covers most of the sound from the tyres.
