ADAS Calibration

We’re all on the journey towards safer roads and as such, our vehicles have become more complex.

That’s why Eastbourne Tyre Company have installed Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) calibration equipment in our workshop to enable us to carry out ADAS calibration for 90% of cars and vans (with ADAS) on the road. Our IMI insurance accredited technicians can calibrate, reset and troubleshoot your car, van, or motorhome’s ADAS.

What is ADAS calibration?

Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) relates to technological advances that helps increase pedestrian and driver safety and comfort. Systems such as automatic braking, lane departure, steering control and the blind spot monitor are all examples of ADAS technology.

It’s important to remember that these are driver assistance systems only and are designed to assist you. They are not designed to replace the driver and you should never solely rely on them. Eastbourne Tyre Company have all the specialist equipment required to calibrate your ADAS systems, keeping you, your passengers, and other road users safe.

ADAS systems your car might have:

If you have a small triangle or square in the top centre of your windscreen or front grill, you probably have one or more of the following:

  • Adaptive cruise control
  • Blind spot warning
  • Driver alerts
  • Electronic stability control (ESC)
  • Forward collision warning
  • Lane departure warning
  • Lane keep assist
  • Night vision
  • Parking aids

Vehicles are equipped with a mixture of ADAS systems which vary from model to model, so if you are unsure about any aspect of your ADAS system, do call or visit Eastbourne Tyre Company and one of our ADAS calibration technicians will give you further information.

When do I need to have my ADAS calibration checked?

To work properly, the ADAS system communicates with a vehicle’s ECU and monitors what’s happening around the vehicle as you drive. This is usually in the form of cameras, RADAR, and sensors. Some manufacturers state that after certain tasks, such as windscreen replacement, body repair work, suspension work, and most importantly, wheel alignment, are carried out, ADAS calibration should take place. If any of your ADAS systems are misaligned it could send a false reading and ultimately cause an accident.

Wheel alignment issues are becoming more common now due to the worsening state of our roads, and sometimes potholes are unavoidable. Along with general wear and tear, these are all things that will affect your wheel alignment. Eastbourne Tyre Company is one of the few garages in Sussex who can carry out specialist Hunter wheel alignment (4-wheel alignment/4-wheel geometry) on your car, van or motorhome and with correct wheel alignment you will benefit from better tyre wear, vehicle handling and fuel economy. Your multiple ADAS sensors work in partnership with wheel alignment to look at the road around you which is why it’s important that a calibration takes place if any wheel alignment adjustments are made.
