Run-Flat Tyres

Run-flat tyres are more popular than ever and are now often fitted by manufacturers as standard on new cars. At Eastbourne Tyre Company we stock and fit a wide selection of run-flat tyres.

So what’s the fuss about run-flat tyres? Why are they so popular?

As the name suggests, run-flat tyres let you keep driving after the tyre pressure lowers—typically for up to 50 miles at an approximate speed of 50 mph, although this will vary from car to car. The obvious advantage of this is that it allows you to get to a garage at a time that is convenient for you and prevents the panic that we all feel when we get a puncture or a rapid loss in tyre pressure.

Are there disadvantages to run-flat tyres?

Not really, although it can be a stiffer ride in some vehicles because run-flat tyres have thicker, less flexible sidewalls. However, they are typically very difficult to damage or puncture and they tend to last a good length of time. The only real drawback is that if they do get damaged they are hard to repair so you’ll probably need to replace them rather than repair them.

Can you use run-flat tyres in any car?

Run-flat tyres should only be fitted to vehicles with this type of tyre fitted as standard by the manufacturer. It is not recommended that run-flat tyres are retrofitted.

A well-reputed, family-run garage serving Eastbourne and East Sussex, Eastbourne Tyre Company deliver professional work and unbeatable customer service.
